The Legislative Decree 81/08 introduced the obligation to assess the risks from exposure to a new type of physical agent: Artificial Optical Radiation (AOR).
The obligation to assess the risk of artificial optical radiation applies to all sectors where equipment emitting optical radiation is used and is aimed at reducing the risks for workers arising from such exposure. The main risks to humans associated with excessive exposure to optical radiation fundamentally involve two organs: the eye in all its parts (cornea, lens, and retina) and the skin.
The Artificial Optical Radiation assessment service offered by AGE web solutions, through its own technicians and/or qualified partners, consists of consulting for the evaluation of the risk from exposure to Artificial Optical Radiation:
- Evaluation of Non-Coherent Artificial Optical Radiation (e.g. welding, furnaces, medical devices...)
- Evaluation of Coherent Artificial Optical Radiations (e.g. laser welders, laser cutting, engravers, pointers)
- Evaluation LED Optical Radiation (e.g. LED lamps)
Our assessment takes into account all types of Optical Radiation, therefore it also considers ultraviolet radiation (UVA, UVB, UVC), visible radiation, and infrared radiation.
The evaluation will take place through the use of databases or measurements (using suitable tools) as provided for by the reference standards.
If the exposure values highlighted by the assessment exceed those permitted by the standard, or if there is a risk to the health and safety of workers, then appropriate protective and preventive measures must be immediately adopted to reduce or eliminate the ROA risk.
