The ESRS environmental standards

➡️ Let's get to know the five environmental standards of the ESRS (European Sustainability Reporting Standards), along with the related sub-themes, to discover their role in promoting sustainability.
🌡️First standard: Climate change – subtopics: adaptation, mitigation, energy.
The first standard goes beyond energy efficiency or carbon footprint, looking at the relationship between the company and climate change in a dynamic way, between adaptation and mitigation.
☢️Second standard: Pollution – subtopics: air, water, soil, living organisms, and food resources; substances of concern and very high concern, microplastics.
This standard promotes recycling, composting, and other practices for reducing waste and the pollutants that arise from it, such as microplastics.
🚰Third standard: Waters and marine resources – subtopics: water consumption and withdrawals, wastewater discharges and discharges into the oceans, extraction and use of marine resources.
Water is a precious resource that must be protected by reducing its consumption and recovering it for responsible use.
🦤Standard fourth: Biodiversity and ecosystems - subtopics: direct impacts on biodiversity loss, on the status of species, on the extent and condition of ecosystems.
This standard helps companies assess, mitigate, and disclose the impact of their activities on the environment and on animal and plant species. This assessment must also be integrated with the impact of the habitat on the company, because the link between environment and economy is complex and bidirectional. It is the most comprehensive standard, within which we find the protection of animal and plant populations, the fight against invasive exotic species (such as the American crayfish, water hyacinth, nutria, or gray squirrel), and the fight against soil degradation (such as desertification and sealing).
♻️Fifth standard: Circular economy – subtopics: resource inflows and outflows, waste.
This standard aims to guide companies towards a conscious management of energy and resources, promotes the adoption of renewable energy sources, the optimization of energy efficiency, and the reduction of carbon footprint.
The 5 environmental standards of the ESRS are a valuable guide for companies looking to adopt sustainable policies and practices. Implementing them not only represents a responsible choice but also helps to build a better world for future generations. 👏
